Oxfam GB joins the GEC
Oxfam GB is the founding and largest affiliate in a confederation of 19 partners of Oxfam. Since 1942 it has worked to support those experiencing poverty and tackle the root causes of injustice. Through its work Oxfam sees the impact of a changing climate on the most vulnerable people – how development is being undermined by the pressures a small part of humanity are putting on the planet.
Oxfam’s work is grounded in robust research (bringing a human face to this evidence) and its activities encompasses humanitarian response, long term development work to reduce vulnerability and campaigning activities to change the policies and power imbalances that lead to poverty. It works to raise the voices of marginalised men and women and engage the public in a movement to create a world without poverty.
Oxfam is excited to engage with and support the Green Economy Coalition's work on green economy across the globe. We hope to bring lessons from our extensive policy and research into the GEC's policy formulation and advocacy – sharing our evidence, lessons and ideas for stronger, greener and fairer economies.
Katherine Trebeck, Senior Researcher, Oxfam
Only when the transition to a green economy improves the lives of the poorest will it take hold or be a success. We are delighted that Oxfam has joined the GEC - together we are committed making our economies fair as well as green.
